Thrombosed Hemorrhoid

A thrombosed external hemorrhoid (THE) is a hemorrhoid with a blood clot that keeps the blood in the bulging vein from flowing out of the external hemorrhoid. This means that the blood accumulates in the hemorrhoid. The cell toxins get trapped inside the hemorrhoid too and this blocked, clogged, and toxic are inflame the area and the pain intensifies. It can become so painful that it is not possible to sit.

How Do External Hemorrhoids Get Thrombosed?

Basically it is a result of stagnant blood. If you break your skin, you will bleed but the bleeding will stop as the cut or scratch forms a scab which is just clotted and dried blood.

If your blood sits stops moving, it starts to clot. This is what makes bruises appear – the blood clots under the skin rather than keep on flowing to the area and then leaking outside of the veins but under the skin. So if you have external hemorrhoids, they are filled with blood that may not be moving as you sit for long periods of time. It is harder for blood to move up the body than it is to move down the body.

So the longer you sit, the more apt it is to clot. Blood trapped in a small pool like there would be in a hemorrhoid tends to sit longer. Perhaps some of the blood moves through the hemorrhoid but some of it might just sit and thicken as it clots.

Symptoms

You never have to wonder if you have a thrombosed external hemorrhoid because you will know if you do. They are extremely painful. They also itch, burn, and swell. Of course these are also symptoms of a regular external hemorrhoid.

The constant pain indicates a thrombosis situation. If you can check the color, you will know for sure because it will be a dark color, anywhere from dark red to black.

How To Cure?

The first home remedy to try is a sitz bath. This calls for a couple of inches of hot water and sit in it for 20 minutes. Do this three times a day. Immediately after, sit on an ice pack. The sudden changes in temperature can make your blood move faster and this might help draw out the cell toxins. It definitely helps with inflammation and it is possible that the clot can be cleared up this way. Take psyllium to prevent constipation which would really aggravate the situation. Drink lots of water.

The thrombosed hemorrhoid may need surgery and your doctor should be consulted. The doctor might determine that a hemorrhoidectomy, where the entire external hemorrhoids are removed. The alternative is simple removal of the clot itself. This is fairly straightforward. The clot itself is excised and the wound closed. The result of this is that the external hemorrhoids may still need to be treated but the intense pain is gone. The main thing is not to let the thrombosed hemorrhoid go untended. The problem can continue to the point of becoming gangrenous.
